My personal reactions to Blatner's (1996) book on psychodrama are mixed which is to say that I find some aspects of the psychotherapeutic model appealing and have difficulty with other aspects. Regarding my positive feelings, I do believe that the general techniques associated with acting can accomplish Blatner's claim that they bring ideas and feelings into consciousness that are not normally accessed via a regular dialogue, be that dialogue in or out of a therapeutic context (see: p. xiii). I believe this claim based on certain experiences I had when, for a brief period of time, I was in psychoanalytic therapy. During one session, I was told by my therapist to try to experience and communicate as I did when I was five years of age---a time in my life when I underwent very traumatic events. Almost as soon as I began "acting" as a child, I also started to think and feel things that I had not been in touch with since I was five. It was powerful.
