Sexual Behavior in the Human Female

This is an excerpt from the paper...

Kinsey, A. C., Pomeroy, W. B., Martin, C. E., & Gebhard, . H. (1953). Sexual behavior in the human female. Philadelphia: W.B. Saunders.

Kinsey and associates present a second volume regarding the study of human sex behavior. Evidence from a fact finding survey provides an account of patterns of sexual behavior. This volume includes information from the case histories of 5940 white females and other sources (p. 3). Sexual Behavior in the Human Female by Kinsey et al. (1953), a report resulting from a 15 year research study, is an attempt to extend knowledge in an area that scientific information is limited. For example, factors such as establishing rapport and investigator objectivity and flexibility were considered important parts of a personal interview, as was confidence of the recorded data. Efforts were made to insure reliability of subject repo

Sample variations included social variables such as age, education, and other demographic factors. Varied expertise of researchers also assisted in expansion of findings and understanding of results. The sample size for this study was substantial, however a negative study aspect includes the small sample representing the younger and older population (p. 31). Other variables were also inadequately represented, such as numbers of females who were widowed, separated, or divorced, or small numbers representing different religious backgrounds. These factors were important regarding accurate portrayal of sexual behaviors. For example, the unmarried female is left with fewer options regarding sexual outlets and this will affect sexual behavior patterns. This work provides information that will assist all professionals involved in the research and clinical directing of human behavior (psychologists, physicians, counselors, teachers, clergymen, administrators, social workers, law enforcement officers). It will also assist the general population, regarding human female sex
