In the book Women in Ministry: Four Views, editors Bonnidell Clouse and Robert G. Clouse present the views of four educators and theologians--Robert D. Culver, Susan Foh, Walter Liefeld, and Alvera Mickelsen. Each of these evangelical writers appeals to scripture in offering their particular view of the role of women in the church, centering on the question of whether women in the church should ever have authority over men. Culver argues the traditional view that they should not. Foh suggests a modified position in which women may tach but may not hold positions of authority. Liefeld calls for a plural ministry and so questions the need for ordination as a conferral of authority. Mickelsen calls for the full equality of men and women in the church. The editors note first the long history this discussion has had and the fact that it is raised again and again because each generation must find a way to make the gospel relevant to those not yet converted.
