Sexual Fantasies
This is an excerpt from the paper...
The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary and critique of an article by Leitenberg and Henning (1995) on sexual fantasies. The presented summary and critique covers the article's abstract, its stated purposes, its methods, and its discussion and conclusions. The paper ends with a description of a study that addresses one of the important questions about sexual fantasies that was raised in the article. Leitenberg and Henning's (1995) abstract states that the article is a review of the theory and research on sexual fantasy and delineates the basic areas of the research covered in the review (e.g. theories of sexual fantasy, deviant sexual fantasies, etc.) It is also noted in the abstract that the presented review ends with a summary of major findings, a series of conclusions, and a formulation of suggestions for future research. Over 60 studies are covered in this section alone. With this tremendous amount of material, coverage is--as might be expected--superficial; this because of the difficulty involved in synthesizing so much material down to some general and basic principles concerning incidence and frequency. What makes this section even weaker is that, after reviewing all of these studies, the authors provide no summary section in which the material is concentrated down to a few basic themes. The result is that the reader is left without any way of organizing what has just been covered.
The second section of the review regarding the content of sexual fantasies suffers from the same problems as the first section. The only section that is not unwieldy and which can be and is summarized as to general principles and themes is the section on deviance in sexual fant
