While family, religious, and social factors affect the development and formation of values by individuals, there is also evidence that such development and formation of values occurs in relation to an individual's stage of development (Boom & Molenaar, 1989, pp. 1330145). In part, developmental stage influence on value development and formation is agerelated (Boom & Molenaar, 1989, pp. 133145). Generally, traditional (conservative) values tend to decrease with age, while nontraditional (liberal) values tend to strengthen as an individual ages through the midtwenties (Srivastava & Ramani, 1988, pp. 4353). This phenomenon is particularly relevant for educators.
