1. What steps has NBB taken to be socially responsible?
The concept of corporate social responsibility is multi-faceted. The nature of the concept means that many actions taken by a company can cause it to be considered to socially responsible. Depending upon how one defines social responsibility, however, a company can take many socially responsible actions, but the company still may be deemed by some to be socially irresponsible because of some other act.
NBB takes many actions on a recurring basis that qualify as socially responsible. These actions include the following:
The sponsorship of events, the proceeds of which directly benefit environmental, social, and other non-profit organizations
The development and implementation of technologies that allow the company to lower demands for energy
The adaptation of production processes to accommodate the use of alternative energy sources
The development and implementation of processes to capture and re-use energy emissions
The recycling of agricultural "wastes" from the company's production processes to uses for local area farmers at not cost to the farmers
The underwriting of alternative transportation for employees to conserve energy
Corporate philanthropy to benefit cultural, social, environmental, and substance abuse causes and organizations
2. As a smaller business, how can NBB justify dinating $1 per barrell of beer sold to environmental and community cuases?
