This research develops a strategic analysis of the hotel industry in the United States as of earlyfall 1990. This industry analysis has been prepared according to client instructions, with respect to content, format, and industry definition. Client instructions were to: (1) develop content structure according to a sample paper titled "Strategic Industry Analysis Cellular Telecommunications," as supplemented by a list of nine items provided by the client; (2) format the report of the research findings along the lines of the sample paper identified above; and (3) define the industry according to its Standard Industrial Classification code. As a consequence of adherence to these instructions, the analysis suffers from methodological limitations. These limitations are identified and explained, as applicable, within the text of the analysis.
