To this end, the research will focus on assessing teachers conceptions of: (1) the number and types of skills involved in critical thinking; (2) the definition of critical thinking; (3) the importance of critical thinking to school curriculum; and (4) proper instructional strategies for teaching critical thinking. Each of these variables will be examined to determine whether they significantly differ depending upon whether teachers are elementary or secondary teachers.

In an effort to flesh out understanding of any obtained differences, some additional demographic information will be obtained from teachers. Specifically, additional information will consist of information related to teachers': (1) age; (2) gender; and (3) number of years teaching. Each of these variables can also be examined for any systematic associations with differences in teachers' conceptualizations regarding critical thinking
