Modernization creates different problems for older and younger Kuwaiti females. Ashkanani (1988, p. 2705) found that many older Kuwaiti women experienced difficulties adjusting to modern Kuwait. These older women experienced strong feelings of alienation and loss of identify. These difficulties were attributed to their strict upbringing and traditional socialization. Few services are available to older women to help them with their adjustment difficulties.
elIslam (1983, pp. 321327) reported that because of their differing views of the proper female role in Kuwaiti society, there is among families, a good deal of interpersonal conflict between older and younger women. Older women often envy the wider range of opportunities afforded to younger women, however, despite their overt criticism of the young (elIslam, 1983, pp. 321327). Older women also often blame themselves for providing the education which led their children to depart from traditional ways.
