School Proposal

up to two years of intensive work before they achieve a mastery of the knowledge and skills presented in workshops designed to implement reform and innovation.

The planned workshop is designed to:

(1) Inform teachers of the mission statement of school and to encourage understanding of this statement through lecture, group discussion, and review of materials provided.

(2) To delineate for teachers those educative aims and goals which are considered to be in accord with the school's mission statement and to encourage understanding of these aims and objectives through lecture, group discussion, and review of materials provided.

(3) To provide teachers with a conceptual and applied understanding of the kind and type of instructional activities, materials, and efforts needed to meet the aims and goals of the designed school.

(4) To foster teacher knowledge of informational technology and how it can be used in the classroom to motivate young learners.

(5) To foster collaborative team work as a means of producing cultural change in terms of a school that fosters increased student learning.

(6) To instruct teachers in the use of authentic assessment (hands-on activities) as a means of assessing young children.

Based on empirical research showing increasing elevations of standard achievement test scores for outcome-based educational efforts (see: Ornstein & Gilman, 1991), the mission statement of this school is taken from outcome-based schools that have been found to have strong rates of success. According to Vickery (1988), the mission statement of outcome-based schools is: All students will well learn that which the District requires them to learn. The workshop will discuss this definition in conjunction with review of provided materials about outcome-based early childhood education.
