Physiological and Psychological Aspects of Addiction

In recent years, there has been more and more discussion of marijuana, drug abuse, legalization, decriminalization, and addiction than at any time in the past. These discussions are no longer confined to college campuses, as was the case in the 1960s; now serious consideration is being given to these problems by legislators, judges, lawyers, and members of the medical profession. There are some who believe that legislators, judges, lawyers, and members of the medical profession. There are some who believe that legalization of marijuana use and possession and the decriminalization of other drugs are just around the corner, although others warn that such action ought not to be taken without further study and research in the area of drugs and addiction.

Some see drugs as a way of dealing with stressful conditions they are otherwise unprepared to face. Still others could be considered both medically and legally insane. Thus, sociological aspects are unlike the physiological and psychological aspects of addiction in that they would appear to be more strictly causative in nature.
