Sun Microsystems

This is an excerpt from the paper...

Sun Microsystems, Inc. was founded in 1982. The corporate strategy is providing users with inexpensive, high-quality computer products, solutions, and services. The firm’s mission is delivering products that are customer-oriented, user-friendly, and to ensure that every target market is supplied with accessibility to the information-sharing network. Over the past few decades the company had achieved product differentiation by providing high-priced products that are unique. A Strengths, Opportunities, Weaknesses, and Threats (SWOT) analysis of the corporate structure and strategy will explain the firm’s current position and forecast possible obstacles.

Corporate governance and leadership is a major strength of Sun Microsystems, Inc. CEO Scott McNealy has successfully reorganized the corporate structure and motivated employees by making them feel ownership in the company. McNealy placed greater responsibility on the workforce. In so doing he reorganized the company to be a more effective and efficient one. With the introduction of the Darwin line, Sun strengthened is competitive advantage in the industry by providing lower-priced workstation functionality that eroded market share from rivals like Compaq and other PC vendors. Part of this strategy involved a worldwide trade-in program that guaranteed protection of investment to existing customers while providing value appeal for potential ones.
