ACCESS & ORACLE

This is an excerpt from the paper...

MICROSOFT’S ACCESS97 & ORACLE’S ORACLE7

The technology era has catalyzed the need for more rapid, less complex, affordable, and international-in-scope information dissemination and access. Because of the globally competitive, rapid base of the modern corporate environment, database management system (DBMS) software was developed. Like all computer technology, these programs have evolved rapidly and continuously evolve as improvements are discovered and limitations eliminated. Part of the speed of evolution is from increased consumer demand for programs that help take care of their often monumental information management challenges.

Both Microsoft Corporation and Oracle Corporation make database management system software programs to help them meet the challenge. Microsoft’s Access97 for Windows 95 and Windows NT operating systems offers “relational database power to give you the information you need to make better decisions. It integrates data from spreadsheets and other databases, and is the easy way to find answers, share information over intranets and the Internet, and build faster business solutions” (Access97 5).

Oracle Corporation is the world’s largest provider of information management systems and the world’s second biggest software company behind only Microsoft. It offers Oracle Universal Server among its database programs and Oracle7. These kinds of programs allow for rapid sharing of information around the wor

One of the biggest problems with information management these days is the overwhelming amount of information available. Most of it is irrelevant to decisions that need making or the questions that need answered in day-to-day business operations. Searching the Internet can often result in a host of useless information being provided from a few search words or a query. However, parameterized queries are a feature of Access97 that helps to eliminate this obstacle, “Extending this paradigm to the Web results in a data source that is not only dynamic, but also interactive. Users can request only the information relevant to them, and can be certain that they receive the most up-to-date responses to their queries” (Access97 1). The improved 32-bit performance of Access97 makes it much faster and more responsive when dealing with small forms. It also allows for better compilation and faster data manipulation. Another useful feature is that its performance analyzer wizard analyzes the database you have created. Where speed and performance are required the wizard will make recommendations to im
