TRANSFER APPLICATION TO COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY.

Briefly describe any scholastic honors you have won beginning with ninth grade.

In the year 1998, after graduating from high school, I was awarded First Place in the University of Pernambuco mathematics contest (Vestibular 1999). I won First Place in the same contest in 1999 (Vestibular 2000). As the winner of the prestigious contest two years in a row, I merited the attention of the State Secretary of Education, Dr. Efrem Maranhão, who personally awarded me the certificate of honor.

Presently, I am enrolled in the Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences (MMSS) honors program in economics/mathematics at Northwestern University. A review of my official high school records will provide more information regarding my achievements and accomplishments.

s. Regardless of the height of the ambition of any individual, I know very well from my own and others’ life experiences that a man cannot achieve great things single-handedly. Yet when many unique and diverse talents interact in a creative, disciplined and open-minded manner, the possibilities for achievement are endless. I believe Columbia University offers this kind of academic and social environment. It is the varied and talented academic and social connections that Columbia University offers its citizens that most fuel my desire to attend there. I expect that, due to the highly selective admissions procedure at Columbia, the campus offers a unique and professional community comprised of diverse and talented minds from around the world. I hope to take full advantage of this enormously diverse pool of resources, while contributing to this mélange of talents to my fullest capacity. While I have enjoyed many experiences and gained significant knowledge over the course of my life, I believe one continually learns by pursuing new experiences, knowledge and challenges over the course of a lifetime.
