Business Articles

This is an excerpt from the paper...

The connection among all three business articles under analysis is twofold. One, the articles are all in agreement that corporate America needs to elevate the level of ethical conduct among management. Two, the articles all agree that a high level of misconduct and unethical conduct exist in present day corporate America. To support this dual connection among all three articles, we will look at three concepts mirrored in all of them: 1) High levels of misconduct occur in corporate America; 2) Instituting Ethics Officers and Ethics Policies and Procedures; 3) Good Ethics is good for the bottom line.

That high levels of misconduct occur in corporate America is an argument that is presented in all three articles. In Kenneth Labich’s The New Crisis in Business Ethics one discovers that unethical conduct and misconduct occurs as a routine part of business-as-usual in most corporate environments. He argues that the pressure to cut costs and remain competitive in a dog-eat-dog world increased pressure to commit unethical acts in an ends justifies the means philosophy where “Reaching objectives is what matters and how you get there isn’t that important” (Labich 173). Labich offers some sobering statistics on criminal activity in corporate America. Among them, “between 20 and 30 percent of middle managers have written deceptive internal reports,” and “between 12% and 24% of 18-30 year old Americans say they included false information
