Christian counselors, or nouthetic counselors, use a Biblical frame of reference or worldview as their textbook of truth. From its pages all ideology concerning psychological counseling are derived. The counseling texts under consideration here are written by individuals who share such a worldview. However, many nouthetic or Christian counselors do apply classic psychotherapeutic approaches in combination with their interpretation of the Bible as the sole, valid source of truth. Nonetheless, all classic psychotherapies are modified to be in alignment with Biblical truths since Christian counselors do not view psychotherapy as a singular source of understanding God’s revelations. In fact, they view any therapy or counseling paradigm as incomplete because none can fully reveal God’s wisdom for man, since the totality of God’s revelations are unknown to man in the earthly realm.
Five books are the subjects of this analysis, beginning with an in-depth analysis of the main points found in Introduction To Psychology And Counseling by Paul D. Meier, Frank B. Minirth, Frank B. Wichern, and Donald E. Ratcliff.
