Workplace Violence Primary Research
This is an excerpt from the paper...
Objectives: The Workplace Violence/Employee Security Survey incorporating a Likert Scale was designed to test the premise statement that “few organizations have established a complete workplace violence security plan” that encompasses: management commitment and employee involvement, violence prevention and control policies, pre-screening and training, and incident, post-incident and reporting procedures.Sampling: I contacted several owners of convenience stores franchises to ascertain permission to present all employees with the Workplace Violence/Employee Security Survey. The owner of a Wawa store granted me permission to distribute the survey to all employees. Convenience stores were chosen because they typically have employees who work alone, handle cash, and are located in high crime neighborhoods. Survey: A four-part survey was designed, incorporating a Likert-Scale and pertaining to the four significant aspects of a workplace violence security and prevention program. Solicitation: The surveys were delivered to the Wawa store in plain envelopes with “Workplace Violence/Employee Security Survey” stamped on the front. Inside was the survey and a self-addressed, stamped-envelope to increase response rate. The store employed 40 (3 Managers/3 Asst. Managers/34 Employees) people and 50 surveys were delivered to the shift supervisor for distribution. Anonymity was assured.
