Cracking the Fat Riddle by Madeleine J. Nash discusses the rebirth in popularity of the high-fat Atkins diet, a weight loss program that “defies nutritional wisdom” (46). Typical diets are often based on the diet regimen prescribed by Dr. Dean Ornish, one that limits daily calories from fat intake to about 10% of total calories (Nash 46). This diet and others like it (the Pritikin) are typically high in carbohydrates and low in fats, while others advocated by Atkins, one called Fat Busters, and another known as the zone all advocate low carb intake and high fat intake.
