Contemporary scholars have generated an interest in the role played by women in litigation. In Domestic Dangers: Women, Words, and Sex in Early Modern London, Laura Gowing explores and analyzes the role played by women in ecclesiastical court litigation during the last half of the 1500s and first half of the 1600s. Using London church court records, testimony from many witnesses are provided which reveal that women were often viewed by court officials as less honest than men.
