In our increasingly diverse global culture, the Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) degree provides me with the opportunity for furthering my intellectual growth. Through its interdisciplinary approach, the MLA degree fits in with my goals of career and personal development. The quest for knowledge about ourselves and our world is ongoing. A liberal education encompasses a variety of disciplines I find significant to such learning. History, anthropology, literature, art, music, philosophy, politics, religion, and science are fields of study that will enrich my understanding of my self and others. Such a course of learning will also develop skills that extend beyond formal training. By pursuing a MLA degree, I believe my skills in the following areas will be enriched:

Willingness to examine complex issues

The above skills are critical to gaining a deeper understanding of my self and others, something I find extremely important to a happy and meaningful life directed toward community. I think the MLA degree offers a strong foundation for achieving such a life well lived. An MLA course of learning also provides me with a variety of disciplines to satisfy my interests and curiosities not satisfied by other formal studies. Such a path not only unearths new ideas but it provides fresh perspectives for revisiting old ideas. The MLA offers a greater opportunity to experiment and explore than other more focused degree programs.

Continuous learning across a flexible program of diverse disciplines will greatly enrich my own understanding and competencies. This will provide me with an edge for success in both my personal and professional experiences.
