FAIR

This is an excerpt from the paper...

The ubiquitous presence of the media, modern technology, and the fact that the most powerful media outlets in the world are collectively owned by a handful of wealthy individuals creates a propaganda machinery with more potential for harm than the lethal propaganda machinery implemented by the Nazis under Joseph Goebbels. Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) is a media watch group that was founded in 1986 to provide “criticism of media bias and censorship” (What’s 1). The ruling power elite in the U.S. basically controls the media. Often this serves as the source of construction of the stories, images, values, and viewpoints disseminated through media outlets basically owned by this elite group. And just who is it that determines what it is that is “politically correct” for all of us? The conglomerate owners of the media and, apparently, the government it appears. This is why FAIR is needed to provide balance and a sense of objectivity to reporting and coverage of information. They present an article on the Bill Maher incident in the Nov/Dec 2001 issue of Extra! In this article Peter Hart and Seth Ackerman give us the real facts of why people abandoned their support for Bill Maher. It had nothing to do with his comments, it had everything to do with advertiser fear and corporate greed, “Maher, a hawk on military issues, intended his comment as a criticism of Bill Clinton’s emphasis on air power over ground troops, but maj
