Film Web Site Evaluation

This is an excerpt from the paper...

______________________________________________________________________________

The purpose of this memo is to inform you of various Web sites that are devoted to film reviews and criticism, including design, content and degree of user-friendliness. The following film Web sites that are herein were all located by going to the “Internet Jumpstation” Web site which I have listed in my file of “Favorite Places” from using it in the past for research. At Internet Jumpstation there is a list of links to various search engines, including the following:

MetaCrawler . MetaGopher . IFind . Debriefing . Dogpile . Search Buddy

Alta Vista . excite . Google . GoTo . HotBot . Infoseek . Lycos . NorthernLight . Open Text . snap . WebCrawler . Yahoo

DejaNews . Alta Vista . Reference.COM . Oxford FAQs

Yahoo White/Yellow Pages . Switchboard . BigBook . CCSO ph . AccuMail

By clicking on “Alta Vista” and typing in the keywords “film review sites”, the Web sites devoted to film reviews and criticism discussed below were located through their links. The URL for the Internet Jumpstation is: http://www.cen.uiuc.edu/exploring.html.

Web Site One: Filmweek. At: http://film.reviews.co.uk (9/30/99)

he ability to search “Male” or “Female” characters and even a search option that allows you to hit in lines of dialogue is that is all you can remember and want to access the film it was from. There are also options for advanced searches and links to information about Internet Movie Database, including its statistics and a guided tour. Once hitting in a film title, for the purposes of this evaluation Gone With The Wind was selected. The search provided a new page with links to the 1939 film, and a list of foreign released Gone With The Wind links. Once hitting the link to the 1939 film of Gone With The Wind, one is taken to a comprehensive page of links devoted to Gone With The Wind. This page is one of the most useful film review and criticism sources available on the Internet. It includes a color photo of the film’s marketing poster, lists the writers, the directors, the genre, a tagline from the film, a user rating (an average of 1-10 stars culled from Internet users), a plot outline, user comments and a complete cast including character names and the actors/actresses who played them. This site loads fast and is easy to use, however, its main benefit is its comprehensive nature. For example, if I hit the link on Vivien
