Home Security
This is an excerpt from the paper...
Electronic technology has provided many useful services to humankind. This is especially true in the realms of business and government, but it is also true in our individual lives. How we work, shop, individually interact with others and in general communicate have been radically altered by electronic technology over the past two decades. This is also true regarding the ways and means through which we protect ourselves. We can see this phenomenon more clearly if we look at the ways and systems through which electronic technology has enabled us to better protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our property. Examples of this would be cellular phones, vehicle-equipped electronic navigation systems, and electronically controlled home security systems. Electronic home security systems play a significant role in protecting our lives and our property. If we look at recent home burglary statistics, we can see the importance of needing a sound security system: “Despite a moderate decline in the rate of nonviolent crime in the past decade, about four million homes are likely to be burglarized this year, and roughly another 250,000 unlawful entries will result in robberies, assaults, rapes, and murders. That means one out of every 23 residents will be affected.” This analysis will investigate an electronic home burglar alarm system designed in coordination with parameter security measures to reduce the risk of home intrusion.

y are approximately the size of a quarter and are glued to the glass. When glass breaks they detect the vibration and the alarm sounds. Wired window screen sensors are also employed, and they consist of tiny wires woven through the screen which trigger the alarm if the screen is ripped or cut. The last type of sensor is a passive infrared motion detector. These sensors detect motion and are usually only activated when the house is unoccupied.
The control panel is the brains of the electronic burglar system. It is the processor that collects sensor signals and in turn activates single or multiple alarms. However, the control panel plays another role in that it also communicates with the controllers: “The basic mode of operation is that whenever a sensor notes an opened door or window, or broken glass, or the movement of a warm body, the control panel is alerted. If the appropriate code is entered on the control panel within 10 to 30 seconds of the alarm being triggered, the panel deactivates the alarm. Otherwise it activates the siren and/or notifies a central monitoring station.” Modern control panels often house six to 32 zones and is able to connect with multiple sensors per zone.
