Obstacles to Successful Implementation of JAD

The following research focuses on the use of Joint Application Development (JAD) as a method of effective information gathering during the systems requirements phase of product development. In light of its increasing use by organizations, the problem revolves around how best to develop and implement the JAD method in an effective manner. The background of JAD and its increasing use to achieve competitive advantage are discussed in the background section. After providing two specific objects for this research, a review of the literature provides an in-depth analysis of the JAD method, the enhancement of the JAD method through the use of Upper CASE tools, and how the JAD methods provides benefits to the systems requirements phase of information systems development. Following the literature review, an analysis is provided that describes why JAD is likely to gain in popularity in light of increasing globalization. A conclusion and recommendations are then provided that discuss the essential steps involved in ensuring that the JAD method has the best chances for success. A list of references used in the research is then offered.

The purpose of this research is to explore the use of the Joint Application Development (JAD) method as an effective means of gathering vital information during the systems requirements phase of product development. The research will also explore the JAD process, including the use of Computer-aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools that facilitate the process.
