In the span of research allotted here, it would be difficult to thoroughly cover all of the aspects of education and society that have been impacted from the advent of the Internet and World Wide Web (hereafter Web). In terms of education, the way people learn, the types of learning tools available, and even the nature of the classroom and teaching process have been dramatically altered by Internet technology. Where society is concerned, the ways we shop, listen to music, interact with each other, send mail, work, and make relationships have also been dramatically altered from the presence of the Internet and Web. This analysis will discuss some of these changes and benefits, both in education and for society. Also discussed will be some of the concerns of those who view the Internet and Web as deleterious to education and social interaction. A conclusion will address the likely ways the Internet and Web will continue to impact education and society in future.One of the biggest benefits education has experienced as a result of the Internet is great ability to offer distance learning. As one academician notes “The Internet and other new-media technologies have the potential to change distance learning into a force that could alter the face of higher education” (Armstrong 20).
