Marijuana is the most widely used drug in America. Its popularity has grown in recent decades, leading to a number of political movements to legalize the drug. Although marijuana remains illegal under federal regulation, bills have passed in several states such as California and Arizona allowing the medicinal use of marijuana. This movement has intensified concerns of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Customs Officials as a higher demand for the drug translates to a higher supply: “Relaxed public perception of harm, popularization by the media and by groups advocating legalization, along with the trend of smoking marijuana-filled cigars known as "blunts," contribute to the nationwide resurgence in marijuana's popularity”(DEA, 1999, 1). Much of the supply is crossing U.S. borders, and it is these agencies’ responsibility to stop the illegal trafficking.Growing of marijuana requires a substantial amount of water, a relatively warm temperature, and plenty of light.
