In Broad’s essay, we see him present various philosophical and scientific arguments in opposition to two-sided interactionism, i.e., the argument that the mind and the body are able to mutually impact one another. When discussing the philosophical reaction, Broad can support the philosophical criticism that an adequate criterion of causal connexion needs some other relation between a pair of events in addition to concomitant variation. However, the essayist is not able to support the contention that the other relation that is mandated to do so is the concept of qualitative likeness.In reviewing the scientific opposition to two-sided interactionism, Broad argues that of the two main scientific arguments against two-sided interaction both are flawed.
