Groups are a fundamental component of American society, both in and outside of the workplace. From work teams to church committees, groups appear to be successful in achieving many goals and tasks. However, groups are only successful if certain group dynamics exist that promote a higher level of efficiency among group members. Group performance is directly dependent upon the following factors: relationships, group structure, group process, member emotions, group communication, member attributes, and external forces (Hirokawa et al., 1). This analysis will focus on small group communication and its role in successful group performance.
