Today’s independent filmmaker faces a host of opportunities for financing and marketing films formerly not available to independent filmmakers of the past. The advent of technology is one reason why there are more financing and marketing opportunities in today’s independent filmmaking environment. From run-a-way independent successes like The Blair Witch Project to completely digital offerings like Angry Kid, the advent of the Internet and World Wide Web have opened financing and marketing doors formerly unavailable to any kind of filmmaker. The phenomenal success of low-budget, outside Hollywood production machinery films like The Blair Witch Project was associated as much with the momentous wave of marketing provided via the internet as it was with the quality of the film which was generally panned by critics and filmgoers alike. This analysis will discuss the financing and marketing opportunities available in today’s independent film industry.

When it comes to independent film financing, there are two kinds of financing: loans and investments. As one independent film financier advises “If people give you money for a film, it’s either a loan or an investment.
