Young people today are waiting longer to marry. Factors related to this fact are presented along with a discussion of these reasons. Whether today's views will lead to the forgoing of marriage altogether and the impact of these views on American are presented. While the number of married 15 to 19-year-olds in the United States increased between 1990 and 2000 (from 598,000 to 891,000), this number remains small in comparison to the overall number of marriages. Statistics show that today, Americans as a group, are marrying later in life (Hollander, 2003). From 1950 to 1985, in every country, the mean age for males who married was higher than the mean age for females.
