Title of Study: Enhancing Outcomes in Addiction TreatmentThe purpose if this study is to examine the educational impact of a psychoeducational neurobiology of addictions program, on behavior change. Patients who are entering primary outpatient treatment for addictions will be invited to participate in 3 one-hour education group sessions over the course of three weeks. The study will examine the effects of a neurobiology of addictions program on behavior change, stages of change with motivation from core beliefs, and knowledge gained from the psychoeducational process. A control and an experimental group will each receive 3 hours of addiction education over a three week period. Both groups will have a different educational focus. Once the education is complete, the groups will be compared to determine which if any, targeted behavioral changes have been observed.
