In 1904, the British Tobacco Company (Australia) Limited formed to take over a group of small tobacco companies. The purchase of a controlling interest in Coca-Cola Bottlers (Perth) Pty Ltd in 1964 was the company's first association witháthe Coca-Cola Company. In 1977, the Company changed its name to Amatil Limited, which is an abbreviation of Allied Manufacturing and Trading Industries Limited. AmatiláBeverage Division makes its first investment outside Australia with theáacquisition of the Coca-Cola bottling franchises for Vienna and Graz in Austria in 1982, Amatil Beverages acquires further overseas Coca-Cola territories in Fiji and New Zealand in 1988. In 1989, Amatil changes its name toáCoca-Cola Amatil Limited (CCA) andáthe Coca-Cola Company becomes CCA'sámajor shareholder. In 1991, CCA expands in South East Asia with the formation of joint ventures with the Indonesian Tirtalina Group and theáIndonesian Pan Java Group. CCA acquires the two major Coca-Colaábottling operations in Papua New Guineaá- L' andáPort Moresby. In 1997, CCA, through an exchange of shares, acquires the operations of Coca-Cola BottlersáPhilippines Inc from San Miguel Corporation andáThe Coca-Cola Company. In 1998, Coca-Cola Amatil spins off its European operations to create a new separateápublicly listed company, Coca-Cola Beverages, declaring that it intends to focus on the development of its Asia-Pacific businesses. Bottling operations in South Korea, Coca-Cola Korea Bottling Co., are acquired from The Coca-Cola Company.áIn 2001,Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines Inc. was sold to The Coca-Cola Company and San Miguel Corporation. Coca-Cola Amatil continues to be the largest bottler of non-alcoholicábeverages in theá Asia Pacific Region.
