Male Obsession of Viewing Two Women Engaging in Sex

Men's obsession with watching images of lesbians or girls engaged in sexual activity has become accepted as a given in society. The acceptance of these images by men is noticeable in their widespread appearance in the mass media. Nonetheless, the underlying reasons for this phenomenon have not been fully examined. According to the men who were interviewed by Candace Bushnell on the subject, the image of two women engaged in sexual intercourse is tantamount to being presented with double the amount of sensuality and beauty, and double the stimulation (cited in Leith, 2003).

Another explanation presented by Leith (2003) refers to the men's perceptions of their vulnerability due to their sexual needs. Unlike women who are better able to control their sexual desire and withhold their sexuality from their male counterparts, men are driven by their sexual impulses. Thus, watching the images of two women indulging in sexual activities provide them with an alternative and more hopeful picture of women who are as driven by their sexual desires as men.

Finally, Wolf (1994) highlighted the possibility that the men's interest in seeing two women engaging in sexual activities may stem from its forbidden nature. While people in society are bombarded by images of heterosexual couples kissing, portrayals of lesbian couples are highly uncommon.
