This report will look at the opinions of the baby boomer generation to see how they feel about the situation in the country right now, and if they feel they will have adequate financial support and medical coverage when they retire in a few years. The baby boomer generation, born between 1946 and 1964, represent a huge population in the United States (AARP, 2004). In the year 2000, people over age 65 made up 12.4 percent of the population, but by 2030 this figure will have surged to 20 percent. As their numbers swell, this will enable them to have more power over American politics, and they will want to protect the rights of seniors like themselves. They will have tremendous political clout as a group. A recent survey showed that 51 percent of the baby boomers describe themselves as fiscal conservatives, which was not a surprise as voters tend to become more conservative as they age (AARP, 2004). Only 20 percent of boomers consider themselves very or moderately liberal on economic issues. They are generally comfortable with alternative lifestyles and diversity, and are often quite liberal socially. They support abortion by a wide majority, (57 percent to 38 percent); 72 percent believe the government should protect the environment; they are distrustful of big business, and 63 percent believe the federal government should be responsible for protecting people's privacy; 72 percent believe the government should be responsible for educating young peop
