Nearly every child is a storyteller, finding material to use to create wondrous stories from the most mundane events - a drop of water sliding down the window, a trail of ants across the sidewalk, a bar of soap that appears to have taken on the shape of a dolphin. But as we grow older - even when we are still children and teenagers - most of us forget the power of stories. We begin to take on some of the responsibilities of adulthood along with far too much of its seriousness. We forget how to play. The process of creative writing can help return that ability to play to many of us, connecting us not only with our younger selves but also with the youth of our own species.For many years, physical anthropologists looked for a single link that would set us apart from all other species, that explained human domination over the world.
