The Terrarium
This is an excerpt from the paper...
Most of us have seen a terrarium at some point in our lives and have probably been fascinated by the way in which a terrarium has the ability to exist almost without any outside intervention. The self-sustainability - or near-self-sustainability - of the terrarium along with its small size create the sense of a miniature world. This paper examines the steps that anyone interested in creating a terrarium should follow in order to produce their own miniature world. The first step to making a terrarium is to select the container. This choice will be influenced by the space that you have available for a terrarium as well as the kinds of plants (and even in some case animals) that you want to put in it. It will also be influenced by the amount of money that you want to pay for materials. Many people choose to use an aquarium, which has the advantage of being well constructed and coming in a variety of sizes, but can be rather expensive. A small terrarium can also be made very inexpensively by using the bottom half of a plastic two-liter soda bottle.
