It should not surprise us that there are deep connections between Islam and Christianity. Islam arise in the same part of the world as did Christianity, and incorporates some of the same religious texts. Moreover, there are general similarities among all of the world's major religions that we also find if we look just to Christianity and Islam. Both, for example, take as a tenet of their faith the importance of being generous, of of encouraging charity, of enjoining those who have enough to give to those who do not. Both religions tell their children cautionary tales about what happens to those who do not give to the needy. In both Islamic and Christian stories one can be pretty sure that the poor stranger who asks for only a crust of bread and a corner of a stable to rest in and is refused will turn out to be an angel or other powerful creature. This paper examines some of the most important connections among Christian and Islamic belief, including the areas of law, faith and love.Both religions have legal systems associated with them, although in the 20th century there are more examples of Islamic law directly influencing civil law than is true of Christianity influencing laws directly. Both religions have internal sets of laws that govern the behavior of their adherents. In both cases, there are more or less strict interpretations of those laws.
