The parent company, the Tribune Company, had expanded into television, radio and newspapers around the country, and was a significant investor in other ecommerce companies, as well. The Internet site www.chicagotribune.com offered some content that was not available in the print edition of the newspaper, but the company was struggling to define what that Internet site should be.
