Measuring Perceptions of Staff
This is an excerpt from the paper...
Since literature regarding college and university Deans and Directors pointed out that ethical leadership, whether real or perceived, is important to the success of the mission of the college, it is important to understand the perceptions of staff and faculty regarding this leadership and to further evaluate impacts of these perceptions on job satisfaction and work performance. This research study was designed to investigate these variables (ethical leadership, job satisfaction, and work performance). Quantitative and qualitative research with surveys and interviews of faculty and staff and Deans and Directors will be used to gather relevant data, which will be statistically and qualitatively analyzed. This chapter presents a detailed description of the methodology and procedures used for this study. Qualitative and quantitative survey research, a nonexperimental design, will be used for this study. The experimental design allows for the control over variables and threats to validity, and the nonexperimental design does not, however both yield empirical results. Empirical research includes the collection of data and the analysis of the data to answer a research question or hypothesis. In this case the research questions will guide the review of literature relevant to the topic and the use of specific surveys to gather data. Data will be statistically and qualitatively analyzed and conclus

erparts; constituent's assessments did not show these differences. Findings with Native American and non-Native Americans were not significant. A study of African-American and Caucasian female college leaders showed no significant effects of leader ethnicity. Sample size affects the chance of finding statistically significant differences between groups (Wiley, 2002).
Validation of the LPI has shown good face validity. Factor analysis has also demonstrated that the LPI has five factors. These factors have been validated in several studies. Concurrent validity is also excellent; leadership scores consistently relate with aspects of managerial and organizational effectiveness that are important (work-group performance, team cohesiveness, commitment, satisfaction, and credibility). LPI scores differentiate between low and high performing leaders, showing discriminant validity. Meta-reviews show that the LPI is consistently rated as among the best scales with excellent face validity and psychometric validity (Wiley, 2002).
