Ethical Leadership, Job Satisfaction and Work Performance: A Proposal

Since literature regarding college and university Deans and Directors pointed out that ethical leadership, whether real or perceived, is important to the success of the mission of the college, it is important to understand the perceptions of staff and faculty regarding this leadership and to further evaluate impacts of these perceptions on job satisfaction and work performance. This research study was designed to investigate these variables (ethical leadership, job satisfaction, and work performance). Quantitative and qualitative research with surveys and interviews of faculty and staff and Deans and Directors will be used to gather relevant data, which will be statistically and qualitatively analyzed. This chapter presents a detailed description of the methodology and procedures used for this study.

Qualitative and quantitative survey research, a nonexperimental design, will be used for this study. The experimental design allows for the control over variables and threats to validity, and the nonexperimental design does not, however both yield empirical results. Empirical research includes the collection of data and the analysis of the data to answer a research question or hypothesis. In this case the research questions will guide the review of literature relevant to the topic and the use of specific surveys to gather data.
