ARTICLE SYNOPSIS: "EXPERIMENTAL EVIDENCE RELATING TO THE PERSON-SITUATION INTERACTIONIST MODEL OF ETHICAL DECISION MAKING"

This paper presents a synopsis of the scholarly research article "Experimental Evidence Relating to the Person-Situation Interactionist Model of Ethical Decision Making" (Church, Gaa, Nainar, & Shehata, 2005). The synopsis includes (a) definition of the business research and purpose, (b) explanation of the business problem, (c) identification of the parties conducting the research, and (d) description of the methods used in the research.

Definition of the Business Research and the Purpose

A widely applied model of ethical decision making posits that ethical decisions are the product of the interactions between personal factors (specific to the individual making a decision) and situational factors (specific to the situation within which a decision is made). An alternative explanation of decision making is that all decisions are a function of the self-interest of the person making a decision (Church, Gaa, Nainar, & Shehata, 2005). The purpose of the research study reported in the article synopsized in this paper was to test the validity of the ethical decision making model (personal factors and situational factors) through the conduct of an experiment (Church, Gaa, Nainar, & Shehata, 2005).

Business ethics is a highly relevant issue in the early years of the 21st century. High-profile cases of failures of corporate governance have been in the headlines for most of the past five years.
