Caterpillar Inc. is the worlds leading producer of heavy construction equipment and diesel engines, and a major producer of electrical power generation equipment. Its situation compared to US automakers provides an interesting contrast. Caterpillar sells in 200 countries and more than half its revenues come from outside the United States.
