Mankind's capacity for worship establishes its unique status among all forms of life. Whether that worship is directed to a single deity, to a multiplicity of deities, or to objects in nature, mankind alone worships. People are born and die, laugh and cry, work and play, raise families and retire, reminisce and plan; regardless of their religious institutions, people share these common denominators.

It is this one overarching principle which provides perhaps the single greatest benefit to a society connected with any of these four great religions. The belief in some form of life after death is necessary to any concept of human life serving any larger purpose than the fulfillment of the immediate aspirations we set ourselves. This religious insight is supported by the parallel secular response of some twentieth century artists, m
