Schwarzkopf's father was a major general who worked in several countries. In Iran in the 1940s Schwarzkopf Sr. was charged with creating a disciplined police force from the ranks of impoverished Iranians. He was able to do this with a great deal of care and courage. The younger Schwarzkopf was twelve years old at the time and observed his father in this effort.
