What is the Basis for the Negative Stereotype of Despite the trend towards tolerance in the United States, negative stereotypes for homosexuals persist in society for several reasons including skewed views from the media, entertainment industry and religious communities. The United States is traditionally built upon Judeo-Christian values which sometimes fosters this paradox. Values (Bible as example) preach tolerance between different people groups and even different genders. Values also preach that homosexuality is wrong and an "abomination" before God. Some of those outspokenly against homosexuality admit that it is because they prefer a "black/white" dichotomy of "right" sexual orientation and "wrong" sexual orientation as opposed to a spectrum of orientation. For example, Sonny Bono admitted his reluctance to accept homosexuality because it seemed abnormal to him.
