EEG Synchronization & Recall

This is an excerpt from the paper...

This experiment investigated the following research question: What are the effects of variations in EEG synchronization on the efficiency of the recall and recognition of verbal stimuli? It was found that variations in EEG synchronization are unrelated to variations in the efficiency of the recall and recognition of verbal stimuli. The experimental findings generally were consistent with reports in the literature that instructions aid recall.

The Effects of EEG Synchronization on the Efficiency of the Recall and Recognition of Verbal Stimuli

Both the recall and the recognition of verbal stimuli are affected by a variety of factors (Backman, 1992, pp. 273-278). Processing strategies have been found to influence the efficiency of both the recall and the recognition of verbal stimuli to a greater extent than most environmental conditions (Otani, 1991, pp. 101-116). Cued response has been found to have the greatest positive impact on both the recall and the recognition of verbal stimuli (Otani, 1994, pp. 401-421).

Both recall and recognition memory are parts of working memory (Baddeley, 1992a, pp. 281-288). Working memory may be defined as the system for the temporary maintenance and manipulation of information necessary for the performance of such complex cognitive activities as comprehension, learning, and reasoning. The term working memory refers to an area of research that may or may not prove to be dependent on a single coherent system. Generally, worki
