Data for the proposed study will be obtained from official publications of the Republic of India and the United Nations. Data will be collected on an annual basis for the 30-year inclusive period 1969-1998. Because of the lagging characteristics of the Granger Causality Test, actual analyses will be performed on data for 25-year periods. Data will be collected in relation to (1) national defense expenditures in India, (2) the manufacturing component of GDP in India, and (3) school enrollment as a proportion of the total population of persons aged six through 16 years old in India.
