Personal Response to Radio Program

April 30, 2001: Activists are gearing up for the resumption of U.S. Navy bombing exercises today on the Puerto Rican island of Vieques. The bombing of Vieques began in 1941 and has enraged many Puerto Ricans for years. The fury intensified after a civilian was killed in April 1999 by an errant shell that wounded four others.

My response to this is that this is an issue that is being used by people in Puerto Rico for issues other than what they say it is. The Puerto Rican independence movement has tried for years to get the people of Puerto Rico to agree with them that the island is better off if it is independent of the United States.
