MMPI-2 Interpretation: The case of Larry: This 5-page paper is an interpretation of an MMPI-2 test from a case described in the text MMPI-2 Assessing Personality and Psychopathology, third edition by John R. Graham.Larry seems to be having some problems that are sufficiently significant to severely disrupt his life and work. He was able to complete the MMPI-2 protocol, but only in brief segments, a total of four testing sessions and seemed agitated during the testing, an indication of anxiety and fear around people or of doing something wrong. He said that he never had had any trouble with the law, but in the military found it difficult to concentrate, sometimes having hallucinations, and at least one suicide attempt. Larry is has symptoms that make it difficult to live a normal life, and his test scores indicate some extremes that could include a plea for help from professionals (Graham, 2000, 26). He is clinically depressed, fearful, and having trouble sleeping. He is deeply lacking in self-confidence, and seems unable to function in a variety of situations. It is possible that he is prone to substance abuse, although this was not mentioned in the intake. His high scores on Scales 6, 7, and 8 indicate disturbed thinking, delusions, and the inability to distinguish what is real and what is not. He harbors a high degree of anger and exhibits obsessive-compulsive thoughts and behaviors, feeling in general unhappy with his life. He is not coping well with the deg

ous life difficulties. He would like to have a normal life, with marriage and a family but feels that his family gave him no role models. His life is a strain and he is angry about being rejected by so many people and important situations.
Larry's high Hostility score makes him vulnerable to getting into trouble with other people, even with the law. He has internalized a high degree of hostility towards others, and has become suspicious and mistrusting towards others, making it difficult for him to interact in ordinary social and business situations. He has a very poor self-concept and is not at all well adjusted psychologically.
Larry's extremely low scores in Dominance and Responsibility are consistent with general alienation from society. He is cool, disconnected from human interaction. He has lost all drive for achievement and is inadequate in handling life's challenges. Larry seems extremely uncertain about how is supposed to behave and copes by quietly retreating into fantasies and delusion. It is unknown, but possible that his mental and emotional retreats include alcohol abuse. Larry has no concept of leadership and cannot even assume the lead in his own life, alternating between passive internal retreat and ang
