Mid-Priced Hotels in the Middle East

This is an excerpt from the paper...

MARKETING MID-PRICED HOTELS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

The Middle East is a rapidly developing region of the world. Both the economic importance of the region and history cause the Middle East to be increasingly attractive as a travel destination. While major hotel firms have responded to the increased demand, these responses have been concentrated in the upper price ranges of the hotel industry. The increasing demand for more affordable accommodations in the region argue for the development of mid-priced hotel properties. This study examined the marketing potential of mid-priced hotels in the Middle East region.

Customers are clamoring for more affordable accommodations. Unfortunately, few major hotel and motel operators are addressing these needs. In the quality class, only hotels operating gaming establishments in conjunction with lodging operations offer affordable lodging rates.

The lodging industry is largely a chain operation, when those lodging facilities associated with gaming operations are not considered. The most recent development in the industry is the residence concept.

Within the context of competitive structure, the lodging industry is dominated by major corporations, most of which operate chains of establishments. The small, and the independent will likely virtually disappear from the industry by 2000. The only place for independents in the changing industry will likely be as franchise holders/operators in the chain segment of the industry.

Communication within an organization is not simply a matter of people and groups learning to speak to one another or to convey ideas to one another. On a more important level, such communication is the building of trust between the communicating parties. It is only when such trust is established that meaningful progress may occur. Problems arise for the hospitality management seeking to establish an effective framework of intercultural communications. Immigrant worker attitudes may reflect values that conflict with the domestic values integrated into the culture of an hospitality organization. Such differing attitudes and values must be accommodated within a modified corporate culture. A third major problem involving immigrant workers concerns unionization. Energetic and successful efforts are now being made to unionize these relatively new arrivals. Theft Prevention in Hotel Environments The loss of property (both physical and financial in nature) through theft is a major problem confronted by lodging
